Cardinia Trust for Nature

Covenanters Group

What we do?

The Cardinia Trust for Nature Covenanters Group are landholders around the hills of Cardinia who have Trust for Nature covenanted properties. Go here for a map of the properties.

A conservation covenant is a voluntary agreement made between the landowner and Trust for Nature. The purpose of the covenant is to permanently protect the natural, cultural or scientific values of the land. In order to do this, the covenant is registered on the Certificate of Title to the land and must then be observed by all future owners. Unlike common law covenants and planning schemes, Trust for Nature conservation covenants are entered into under the Victorian Conservation Trust Act 1972 and are legally binding.

Annually we get together with property owners within the hills of Cardinia who have protected their native bushland with 'Trust for Nature Conservation Covenants'.
The group's aim is to raise the profile of the Trust's work in relation to Conservation Covenants while getting to know each other and their properties.
The afternoon consists of a BYO picnic lunch and drinks, an informal discussion on the Group's activities and a guided tour of the property.
Various Trust for Nature staff attend and bring everyone up to date with current developments.
Any landowner wishing to learn about the Trust's work and the Cardinia Shire's Biodiversity Incentive Scheme for Covenanted properties are most welcome to attend or contact us for more information.
Trust for Nature focuses on landscape scale conservation using land purchase, conservation covenants and a Revolving Fund. Trust for Nature is a non-profit organization which works to protect remnant bushland - forever.
